VIDEO CONFERENCE: How do I explain “Asperger Syndrome” to my family and friends?
It’s not so much explaining autism or ASD or “Asperger’s” is it? It’s about explaining what we live with. We want support. We want to be understood. We want others to talk to without being criticized for complaining.
There is this natural human instinct that we NTs have that drives us to connect with others and to share our experience. Except that when we try, especially when we try to explain life with an adult on the Autism Spectrum — that others give us a blank stare, or are dismissive, or critical. Not only do we live with a hidden disability in our family, but we also can’t talk about it.
During this video conference we will discuss methods for sharing our life experience with others. Afterall, my need to be understood is why I have written three books on the subject and started this group. Yes, this is my life too. I still want to be understood, even after all of these years.
Joining the conference, make sure you have a private place to talk, without interruption. I will send you reminders of this Zoom conference, but if you don’t have your email set to receive the reminders, you may not notice. I would hate to have you miss the call, so make sure you’re able to get my messages.
