Topic: TELECONFERENCE: Why are we so afraid?
When: Thursday, October 22nd at 1 pm Pacific Time
Are you afraid to speak up around your ASD spouse? Do you feel defensive around others too? Are you worried that you will be rejected by others if you speak up? Do you fear that your spouse’s reputation will be harmed if you mention their diagnosis? Or worse, have you experienced open threats and downright terrorism from your ASD loved one?
When I scroll through the pages of our members I notice that roughly half of you do not post a photograph of yourself, and/or don’t use your true name. This is perfectly fine with me. In fact when I started our group nine years ago, I made a conscious decision to protect the privacy of our members. If people need to protect their identities for safety reasons, I support you.
However, this phenomenon of being secretive is also indicative of fear, the kind of fear that comes from years of chronic emotional stress that comes with living with people on the spectrum. The only way to conquer this fear is to talk about it with others in this group, who really get it.
It’s time isn’t it? Time to take your life back. Time to laugh again. Time to know that the real you is worthy. Time to know that others really want to know you. I do. Please come to this teleconference prepared to share your story if you wish, and to support others who take the plunge.
