Along the Spectrum of Empathy Dysfunction (EmD) there are many jumping on and off points that will lead to full blown Narcissism. Those choices we make as children and teens and even as adults can send us down a dark path.

Why is it important to discuss this problem in our group? Because daily we are dealing with the incredible stress of life with an adult on the Autism Spectrum. The stress can make us and our ASD loved ones turn to manipulation, avoidance, and angry retaliation — all tools of the narcissist.

There certainly is no satisfaction in this conduct. It may be hard to believe but it is not so easy to stop once started. But you must find a way to stop it, or the relationship is doomed. You may not be able to stop the other person, but you can learn to sidestep the attacks.

I have been chastised for discussing the tendency of “Aspies” to use narcissistic tools, without giving equal weight to the NT propensity for the same. In this teleconference, we will look at the different paths that are taken to reach narcissism. I don’t think it’s the same for NTs and “Aspies.”
